Calendar for the 2020 Young Writers Contest
Young Writers Calendar

This year the Huntsville Literary Association begins its 52nd annual Young Writers Contest for the students of public, private and home-schools in Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County. To assist in your planning, we are providing the above calendar to facilitate the scheduling of Young Writer assignments into your classroom studies.

Elementary, Junior, and Senior Divisions – All divisions are aligned with the grade levels of the Huntsville, Madison, and Madison County schools as well as private and home-schools. HLA recognizes the winners in the Elementary, Junior and Senior Divisions in a number of ways. All winners, including honorable mentions, receive recognition at the awards ceremony; the First Place winners are asked to read aloud their poems or short stories. First through Third Place winning entries are published in the Huntsville Literary Association’s Young Writers Awards Booklet given to all attending the awards ceremony. In addition, First, Second, and Third Place winners receive cash prizes. First place winners are invited to read their works on WLRH Public Radio.

Details and rules for entry in the Elementary Poetry, Junior and Senior Poetry, Junior and Senior Short Story, and Senior Art Work will be provided in a letter with a brochure in January. Contest rules are available here. For additional information you may call Ann Marie Martin at 256-682-4707 or Carol Ashburn Roach at 256-776-0037.

This program is made possible with grants from the Huntsville Arts and Cultural Grant Program, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment of the Arts, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
