2023 Young Writers Contest

This year the Huntsville Literary Association begins its 55th annual Young Writers Contest for the students of public, private, virtual and home schools in Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County. For teachers, the above calendar is provided to facilitate the scheduling of Young Writer assignments into your classroom studies.

Contest Divisions - The Young Writers Contest has separate categories aligned with student grade levels--Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, Middle School and High School. We recognize the winners in each category in a number of ways. All winners, including honorable mentions, will be listed on this website along with photos of the First Place winners; see for example 2022 Contest Winners. First Place through Third Place winning entries in each category are published in the Huntsville Literary Association’s Young Writers Awards Booklet - a copy of last year's Booklet can be downloaded here. First Place winners will be invited to read their works on WLRH Public Radio.

In addition, First, Second, and Third Place winners will receive cash prizes; and medallions will be awarded to honorable mentions.
